People subscribe to a YouTube channel when they expect to want the next video. So the reliable way to get more subscribers is to make that expectation easy to form: show new visitors what the channel is for, group your videos into series, and ask at the moments YouTube builds in for it. If you came here looking for free YouTube subscribers, that is covered too, along with what YouTube’s own rules say about them and why a small batch is a test rather than a plan. Everything below is based on YouTube Help, checked in October 2026.

What a subscription gives the viewer

It helps to see the button from the viewer’s side. Once someone subscribes, any new video you publish shows up in their Subscriptions feed. They may also get notifications; by default YouTube sends only the highlights from a channel, and the bell lets them choose all notifications instead. The Home feed also shows videos from subscriptions alongside recommendations.

In other words, subscribing is a small promise to come back. Viewers make it when they can predict that what comes next will be worth their time.

Make the channel’s promise clear

A new visitor decides quickly whether your channel is for them, and YouTube gives you a dedicated tool for that moment: the channel trailer. It is shown only to people who have not subscribed yet, and once someone has watched it, it is not shown to them again. Returning subscribers can see a different video, set as Spotlight.

To set either one up:

  1. Sign in to YouTube Studio and select Customization, then Home tab.
  2. Under Layout, click Add section and choose Channel trailer or Spotlight.
  3. Select the video and click Publish.

Use the trailer to answer three questions quickly: what you make, who it is for, and how often new videos arrive. Only state a schedule you can keep. The Home tab can also hold up to 12 custom sections, so put your best playlists there rather than leaving visitors with a plain list of uploads.

Turn single videos into series

One good video earns a view. A series earns a subscription, because the viewer can see that more of the same is coming. Group related videos into playlists with clear names, add them as sections on your Home tab, and make each episode point to the next one. A playlist is also one of the elements you can place on an end screen, which leads straight into the next idea.

Ask at the right moment

YouTube’s policy is explicit: you are allowed to encourage viewers to subscribe, hit the like button, share or comment. The question is when: it makes more sense to ask once the video has given the viewer something than before it starts, and YouTube has two built-in places for it.

  • End screens. You can add them to the last 5 to 20 seconds of a video, with up to four elements on a standard 16:9 video, and one of the element types is Subscribe. The video must be at least 25 seconds long, and end screens are not available on Shorts, videos made for kids or 360 videos. In YouTube Studio, open Content, click the video, choose Editor, then End screen, and Save.
  • Video watermark. Your channel image can appear on videos for the last 15 seconds, from a time you choose, or throughout. It shows in landscape view on computers and phones, although it is not clickable on mobile. You set it in YouTube Studio under Customization.
Table comparing the channel trailer, end screen and video watermark by who sees them, when they appear and their limits
All three are free tools in YouTube Studio; the end screen needs a video of at least 25 seconds.

Where free YouTube subscribers fit

Be clear about the rules before you try any outside service. YouTube’s fake engagement policy says it does not allow anything that artificially increases views, likes, comments or other metrics, and it names subscribe-for-subscribe deals as an example. Content that breaks the policy can be removed, and repeated violations can lead to strikes and, in the end, channel termination. YouTube also says that closed accounts and subscribers identified as spam do not count toward your total.

There is a practical limit as well. Public counts are shortened as a channel grows: 1,234 subscribers appear as 1.23 K, and between 1,000 and 9,999 the count updates only for every 10 new subscribers.

Three examples of shortened public subscriber counts on YouTube: 1,234 shown as 1.23 K, 12,345 as 12.3 K and 1,234,567 as 1.23 M
Past a thousand, the public number moves in steps, so a few extra subscribers often change nothing visible.

With that in mind, our free YouTube subscribers service is deliberately small: enter a public channel handle, no login, one batch per channel after a waiting period. Those subscribers do not watch, like or comment, YouTube may remove subscriptions it judges artificial, and they will not help a YouTube Partner Program review. Free YouTube likes work the same way on a single public video or Short. Treat either as a nudge on a channel that already keeps its promise, never as the plan. The rest of the YouTube services are on the YouTube page.

Questions

Is it allowed to ask viewers to subscribe?

Yes. YouTube’s fake engagement policy says you are allowed to encourage viewers to subscribe, like, share or comment. What it does not allow is artificially increasing metrics, including subscribe-for-subscribe deals.

Why did my subscriber count go down?

People can unsubscribe at any time, and YouTube says closed accounts and subscribers identified as spam do not count toward your total. A drop does not always mean you did something wrong.

Why doesn’t my public subscriber count change after a new subscriber?

Public counts are shortened as a channel grows, for example 1,234 subscribers appear as 1.23 K. Below 1,000 the count updates with every new subscriber; between 1,000 and 9,999 it updates for every 10.

Can I add an end screen to YouTube Shorts?

No. YouTube Help lists Shorts, videos made for kids and 360 videos among the cases where end screens are not available. For regular videos, the video must be at least 25 seconds long.
